Guess what…

Painted some more!
Painted the top portion of the dash with the metallic gray I had left over from the door window frames
The original color has some brown undertones, but at least this will not look as worn/faded
Attached the air deflector to the front clip again

A little minor work

Installed two grommets in the fenders for the headlight wiring
Installed the painted junction blocks for the headlamps
Removed the old oil filter from the 289 engine
Did some spot painting on the 289 around the oil filter

I guess it will never end

Painted the fenders some more… where the rubber hood bumpers were
Painted the metal brackets for the headlamp junction blocks
Painted the channels under the door sills
Painted just a little inside the lip of the rear fenders
Painted the big scratch on the firewall from the hood

Will the painting ever end???

Primed and painted the air deflector
Sanded and cleaned the top part of the air cleaner
Primed and painted it Rust-Oleum High Gloss Black
Primed and painted the hood locking mechanism

Sanded over the air deflector with a Scotchbrite pad
Wiped/cleaned the deflector with alcohol in prep for painting
Removed the old hood side bumpers

Splicing new horn wire

Cut all but an inch or two of the old 12 gauge wires leading to the horn
Spliced new wire to them with butt connectors
Attached ring connectors on the horn relay end

Paint touchup

Sprayed some more green paint on the fenders/engine compartment
Not a smooth coat of paint, but it will do for now
Wiped off some excess with lacquer thinner
Removed the inner fender splash apron to have new ones refabricated
Primed and painted the underside of the front, metal splash apron

Engine compartment painting

Tried sandblasting the battery area and other parts of the inner fenders (engine compartment)
Wiped down with acetone
Painted with Rust-Oleum primer
Painted over primer with the remaining green paint I had mixed at Bonds Brothers
Scraped some more dirt and grime off of the frame
Loosely painted some areas of the frame with Rust-Oleum High Heat “Flat Black”

Grease cleanup

Rolled Stella out of the garage for a pressure wash in the engine bay area
The pressure washer got a lot of the big chunks of dirt and grime
Still a lot of caked on grease, but at least she’s a little cleaner
Rolled her back into the garage

Pulled the engine and transmission

Drained the remaining antifreeze from both rear sides of the block
Removed the gravel shield from under the torque converter
Disconnected the speedo cable
Removed the rear motor mounts
Lifted up on the transmission with the jack, to get it over the crossmember
Pulled the engine and transmission
