Drove Stella three times today

Posted by Eman on July 30th, 2006

Drove Stella three times today and each time got better
Starting her up with no fuel in the line took several tries
She spit out a little black stuff from her tailpipe (not smoke)
First go around had her backfire a few times (in the carb?) and hesitation/dying when going from a complete stop
Came back, checked for leaks [...]

Gas tank and filler neck installed

Posted by Eman on July 29th, 2006

Got the tank installed/bolted up
Used some Vaseline to get the filler neck into the rubber hose
Installed the filler neck grommet
Installed the fuel sending unit
Attached the metal fuel line… Will wait to check for leaks
Put in 4 gallons of fresh gas
Started raining, so I’ll try and start her up tomorrow

Fuel filter, fuel line and a little paint

Posted by Eman on July 25th, 2006

Took off the “old” inline fuel filter
Forced air through the fuel line to check for gunk
A little leftover gas came shooting through, but no rust or debris was present
Painted the inside of the gas filler area

Added Rust Bullet and Picklex20 to the area behind the door where you fill up the tank (over just light surface rust)
Removed the window runner pieces from the passenger side
Cleaned the front window runner brackets with wire brush in prep for Rust Bullet or Picklex20

Front bumper guards

Got the front bumper guards back from being rechromed
Installed them with lock nuts and the rectangular spacers
Put on the second coat of Rust Bullet (trunk underside) and added some rust protection in the gas filler area

Rust Bullet on the trunk underside

Posted by Eman on July 21st, 2006

The underside of the trunk wasn’t bad, but as long as the gas tank was off of the car, I decided I might as well throw some Rust Bullet on there
Got the tank back from pressure washing… wasn’t bad at all on the inside
May need to check the fuel line next

Removed gas tank

Removed the filler neck, grommet, and clamps
Disconnected the metal gas line from the front of the tank
Disconnected the exhaust pipe from its strap
Removed all bolts (including the two in the spare tire well)
Lowered the gas tank

Siphoned gas out

Siphoned the gas out of the tank in prep for removal
Had to remove the fuel sending unit

Stalled on the highway

Posted by Eman on July 16th, 2006

Adjusted the nuts on the master cylinder to give the brake pedal more play
Adjusting these nuts also kept the brake lights from staying on
Took a test drive out of the neighborhood and stalled multiple times
Took off the fuel filter and rinsed through with lacquer thinner
All sorts of gunk (don’t know if it was rust or [...]
