Began my first carburetor rebuild

Took off the upper carburetor housing
Dad helped me disassemble upper housing parts
Soaked everything in carburetor cleaner paint can with basket
Cleaned parts with toothbrush and spray cleaner

Tim came by and helped pull the carburetor
Noticed what appears to be a leak from the master cylinder
Threw on some driver quality taillight ring chrome

First trip around the block!

Greased fittings from middle to rear
Checked rear gear oil (black, but full)
Added 4.5 gallons of high octane (93) unleaded
Assembled rear brakes, drums, etc. without emergency brake stopper
Emergency brake cable nut stuck at the “Y” and not able to adjust it
Transmission info: Detroit Gear Division, Borg Warner Corporation, Model DG-200, Serial #S-C0-88321
Transmission/motor mounts will eventually need [...]

Starting Stella up!

Added back some of the chrome
Installed new spark plugs (Champion H8C/587 – .030 gap)
Added fresh gas
Sprayed starter fluid in and cranked her up!
Engine hiccupped when pressing on the gas
Checked heater settings
Painted battery tray with POR15

First oil change in preparation

Properly installed rear brakes, links, springs, etc. (swapped brake sides that had the actuator attached to the shoe)
Links and everything (other than brake cable) are good now
Drained the diesel fuel
Added, then drained cheap oil to recoat everything
Added Quaker State 10W-30 engine oil
Flipped shoes on passenger front to put the bigger pad forward

First steps toward getting her started

Drained the radiator (looked fine)
Drained the oil (looked sludgy)
Checked the transmission fluid (looked fine)
Ran diesel fuel down the oil filler tube to clean out the sludge
Poured diesel fuel into the oil filler tube and let sit overnight
Installed brake links and anti-rattle springs on rear brakes (didn’t look or feel right)

Begin back brake reassembly

Attached passenger side rear backing plate
Assembled rear brake hardware (sans links or anti-rattle springs)
Reattached all metal brake lines
Attached new brake hoses to the front brakes

Rear axle reassembly

Packed rear wheel bearings
Reassembled the axles (threads had to be recut with 2″ diameter 7/8 x 14 die)
Beat the emergency brake tube out of old backing plates rather than cut the cable
Installed rear left backing plate
Put smaller/newer wheel bearing nut lock washers on front brakes
