Oil change
Posted by Eman on May 4th, 2009Adjusted the brakes again. I think I freed them up a bit and got rid of the pulling.
Changed the oil. Used Rotella 15w40 oil and Fram PB50 oil filter.

Took the driver side exhaust manifold off a 259 engine and put it on Stella. Started her up and the exhaust leak seems to have mostly disappeared. We’ll see.
The timing was way off (retarded) after adding the Pertronix Ignitor. But after adjustment, it’s spot-on. Hopefully that was the cause of the overheating.
Still have an exhaust leak. No idea how to fix it at this point.
I’m not sure the exhaust leak is completely fixed, but it definitely doesn’t smell as bad.
Took a trip around the neighborhood. Stalled once and hiccupped once. Went to fill her up with gas. Made it home fine.
Checked the transmission fluid which was non-existent. Filled it up to the proper level, then noticed something…
Radiator was overflowing. [...]
Put the exhaust manifold back on
Slid in the manifold gaskets (coated with blue gasket maker)
Tightened everything up
Installed the generator
Well, after installing some new gaskets between the pipe and the manifold, we still had a leak. So, we removed the driver side manifold and inspected it and the pipe. The manifold has a bit of a rough edge on the flange, so my buddy is taking it to a machine shop Monday to smooth [...]
We saw where the fuel line was leaking and took the clamps off, holding it to the frame
Tightened the line at the coupling
Tightened the line at the fuel filter
We THINK that got it, as far as the fuel leak (we wanted to tackle a different project rather than replace the whole fuel line)
Time to get [...]
Got some rubber insulating tape and wrapped the base of the steering wheel column. There were a few gaps where the rubber boot was torn as it passes through the firewall. Hopefully that will keep out some of the fumes from the engine.
Jacked her up
Tightened one of the nuts on the exhaust pipe and manifold
Eased her down and out
Added a bit of fuel to the carb and cranked Stella up
Didn’t really see a fuel leak this time
Fumes from the engine were still coming through the firewall near the steering column
I removed the piece of the Dynamat type [...]
Stella still dies coming to a stop, even after being warmed up
Tried adjusting the linkage to the carb and the linkage to the governor again, and still stalled at a red light
Took off both sill plates, so the doors would close
Will see if they can be bent/cut more like the originals (which fit flush to [...]
