Stella probably hates me

Posted by Eman on July 5th, 2008

I’ve let her sit for so long. I had to pour a little gas in the carburetor to get her started. I’m not sure if there’s a leak in the gas line, the fuel pump just doesn’t feel like pulling gas, or just that she’s tired of sitting!
Unfortunately a thunderstorm is coming through, so I [...]

Took Stella out for a club meeting

Posted by Eman on February 10th, 2008

Rolled her out of the garage
Added fresh gas in the tank
Sprayed starting fluid in the carb. Tried starting a few times
Poured a little gas in the carburetor. Finally caught and started
Let her run for awhile, then took her to the nearest gas station for a fill up and air
Drover her a few miles down the [...]

Fixed the problem

Posted by Eman on October 21st, 2007

Took off the top part of the carb
Not really gunky or dirty
Sprayed things down anyway
Noticed a tiny sliver of metal on the valve seat, preventing the needle from working properly
Removed the metal shaving
Put the carb back together and installed it
Started her up and went around the block and down the road without a problem

Huntsville trip

Posted by Eman on October 13th, 2007

Took my first long trip in Stella with her “new” 289. I headed up to Huntsville (about two hours away). The temperature was about 55-60 degrees going up there and Stella made it with no problem. I was probably running 65-70 most of the way.
However, on the way back (about an hour into it), I [...]

Adjusted the linkage one more time

Posted by Eman on July 28th, 2007

Double checked the linkage to the carb again
Everything was fine there
Adjusted the linkage to the governor again
Seemed way off
Took a test drive and she didn’t die, but lost her kickdown, so I probably over-adjusted

Adjusted the linkage to the governor again

Stella still dies coming to a stop, even after being warmed up
Tried adjusting the linkage to the carb and the linkage to the governor again, and still stalled at a red light
Took off both sill plates, so the doors would close

Will see if they can be bent/cut more like the originals (which fit flush to [...]

Running a little better

Posted by Eman on July 4th, 2007

Shortened the throttle to governor linkage one revolution
She wouldn’t even go into Reverse
I think she may have flooded
Went back to my ORIGINAL setting on the throttle linkage and lengthened it one revolution
Had to adjust the accelerator to carburetor linkage (undo what we had just done) back towards the firewall
Attached the kick panels inside
Cut a hole [...]

She started… Again!

Installed the passenger side vent door
Attached the hoses to the radiator
Installed the radiator
Added 50/50 antifreeze
Reattached all of the wiring
Attached the fan belt and adjusted with the generator and bracket
Squirted the valve stems with oil
Started the car
Checked the valves for oiling
Installed the valve covers, grommets, gaskets, nuts
Adjusted the timing with a timing light
Shortened the accelerator linkage
Slightly [...]
